What is a Psychologist?
Psychologists are trained experts in human behaviour and the human mind. They're here to help you navigate life’s ups and downs, offering strategies and support to improve your mental health and strengthen your relationships.
Through compassionate understanding and proven therapeutic methods, psychologists like Madonna Hirning unlock paths to personal growth and deeper connections, helping to improve your overall quality of life.
How Can A Psychologist Help?
Whether it’s tackling personal issues, learning communication skills, or resolving deep-seated conflicts, psychologists offer a helping hand in various challenging aspects of life.
Madonna Hirning, with her expertise in the Gottman Method, is especially skilled in helping couples to rebuild their relationships on a foundation of mutual respect and understanding.
Psychologists can help with managing a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, behavioural problems, ADHS, PTSD, and addiction.
Can A Psychologist help with Anxiety & Depression?
Yes, absolutely. We see a lot of patients who suffer from Anxiety & Depression, it’s more common than most people think. You might find that you need a psychologist during particularly low periods, this might mean a visit with us only once or twice every few years, or you may need support every few weeks or months. There is no one size fits all solution – we work with you when you need and in the best way that suits your personal situation. You don’t have to battle alone, it’s important to consider professional help – it’s quite literally what we are here for.
“Depression is a complex condition, involving many systems of the body, including the immune system, either as cause or effect. It disrupts sleep and it interferes with appetite; in some cases, it causes weight loss; in others, it contributes to weight gain. Depression is also often accompanied by anxiety. Research indicates that not only do the two conditions co-occur but that they overlap in vulnerability patterns.” - Source, Quote from Psychology Today
How Can I See A Psychologist?
In Queensland, you don’t need a referral to see a psychologist. However, if you don’t get a referral first then you will need to pay for the full fee of your psychologist consultation without any medicare rebate.
If you are referred under a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or Psychiatrist, you will be eligible for a Medicare rebate for your psychologist appointment/consultation.
Are Psychologist Services Covered By Medicare?
Yes, psychologist fees are partly covered by Medicare, but primarily for patients who are eligible under either the Better Access to Mental Health Care, Better Start for Children with Disability or Chronic Disease Management programs.
Psychology fees can also be covered partly under Medicare for women concerned about a current or recent pregnancy, or Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people using follow-up allied health services.
Signs You Should See A Psychologist
It might be time to see a psychologist if:
You feel like you’re stuck in a rut, whether it’s personally or with your partner and your relationship
You have suffered trauma that is impacting your daily life
You are feeling disconnected from hobbies and things you enjoy
